Herefordshire Bus Operator Yeomans Travel Commits To Join Government Fare Cap Scheme Following Criticism

One of Herefordshire's largest bus operators, Yeomans Travel, has confirmed it will join the national £2 flat fare scheme starting in January.

The Government announced plans in July to introduce the blanket single-fare cap across England from the start of the new year, though individual bus companies were required to opt into the subsidy-based scheme.

Hereford-based Yeomans Travel, which operates 31 routes across Hereford and surrounding rural areas in the north and southwest of the county, was initially hesitant to sign up. The company previously stated its participation would depend on a formal proposal from the Government.

However, local transport campaign groups Buses4Us and Rail & Bus for Herefordshire have reported that Yeomans has now formally committed to joining the scheme. The operator was contacted for confirmation.

The decision follows earlier frustration expressed by local campaign groups and councillors over delays by Yeomans and Sargeants Brothers, which operates 24 routes across the county, in signing up. Sargeants Brothers confirmed its participation last month, stating it would join "despite having no scheme details".

Welcoming the move, a spokesperson for Buses4Us CIC said: "We thank both Yeomans and Sargeants for their decision to take part and their commitment to affordable bus travel."

"Buses4Us and Rail & Bus for Herefordshire look forward to seeing the benefits reach the people who depend on these services every day," the spokesperson added.
